Politics Is Fandom; Fascism Is Fanfic

In today’s world, it is becoming increasingly clear that politics is not too different from fandom. Just like fans rooting for their favorite sports teams or TV shows, people fervently support their political parties and leaders. They wear their beliefs like badges, defend them fiercely, and engage in heated debates with opponents.

But where does fascism fit into this analogy? Fascism, with its extreme authoritarian and nationalistic views, can be seen as the dark side of political fandom. It is like fan fiction gone wrong, where individuals take their love for a certain ideology or leader to dangerous levels.

Just as fan fiction can distort the original story and characters, fascism distorts the principles of democracy and human rights. It creates a narrative of us vs. them, where the other is demonized and dehumanized. This mentality leads to violence, oppression, and the erosion of civil liberties.

It is important for society to recognize the dangers of political extremism and fascism. Just as fans have a responsibility to enjoy their hobbies in a healthy and respectful manner, citizens have a duty to engage in politics with an open mind and a critical eye.

Ultimately, we must remember that politics is not a game or a fantasy – it has real consequences for people’s lives. By understanding the parallels between politics and fandom, we can work towards a more informed, empathetic, and just society.
